Convention Center Logistics
The new Jekyll Island Convention Center opened in 2012 and handles groups as big as 6900 and as small as a 100. We hope your company or organization was smart enough to book a conference at the beach. The property sits on the oceanfront, with the Beach Village to its south and the Great Dunes Park to the north. It’s very easy to get to. Just cross the causeway onto the island and stay straight until the road ends at a traffic circle. Then loop around the circle to make a left turn, and the Convention Center is immediately there on your right. The Beach Village provides easy access to a quick bite before your convention starts and there are several lunch choices, such as the Wee Pub Beach.
Some popular conferences include Caffeine and Octane and Comic Con’s Jekyll and Hide. Many of Georgia’s public institutions choose to gather on Jekyll as well, including such varied topics as transportation, water policy, and fostering.
Many conference organizers and attendees prefer to book a house for their stay. A home can provide a place to get away from the crowds and excitement of the day’s activities. Perhaps your family and friends would enjoy a day at the beach while you attend talks about your business or hobby. Jekyll Sandpiper has hosted conference organizers who need to escape the office during their evenings. Their families often stay, too, thrilled to squeeze in an extra vacation while other family members work.
If you plan to host a destination wedding on Jekyll, the Convention Center makes a fine venue. Couples frequently choose to have a beach wedding, followed by an indoor reception. And if you hit a bit of rain, you can move the ceremony indoors. The center’s multiple rooms can combine in various configurations to allow for weddings of differing sizes.
