Dairy Queen

Dairy Queen Jekyll Island Fast Food
Fast Food and Ice Cream

Jekyll’s only fast food restaurant is especially popular during lunch hours. Like other Dairy Queens;, you can purchase ice cream treats as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items. The restaurant itself does not have outdoor seating, but the island has a small picnic area within steps of the location.

Service Issues

Service is the biggest complaint about the restaurant, and their reviews reflect the problems. We’ve experienced very friendly servers on our visits, but employee turnover is high. The seasonal nature of vacationers and special events makes for very uneven attendance at the restaurant. It is common for diners to order food and ice cream with the expectation of the the food first and ice cream later. If you happen to visit at lunch during a busy time, be prepared to wait and forego any hopes of getting your order in two courses. For a better experience, consider visiting during less busy times. Unlike many Dairy Queens, this restaurant is not dog-friendly, perhaps because they are at times overflowing with people visitors.

Meal Fare – Entrees

Burgers, chicken strips, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches are the main fare, with sides of fries or onion rings. It is basic fast food, but if you are looking for an inexpensive or quick meal it is a reasonable choice. They are also open for breakfast, but we’ve never visited then and cannot offer an opinion.

Ice cream

This is a soft serve joint, with vanilla and chocolate choices. Blizzards are ice cream with mixers and make the basic ice cream more interesting, with choices such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup or Salted Caramel Truffle. Mom enjoy’s the banana split on almost every visit, while my husband often orders a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Mint Blizzard. You can also get basic sundaes with chocolate, strawberry, or caramel sauce.

Ice Cream Cake

If you are interested in a dessert to share, consider a DQ cake. It is typically a fudge and crunch center, surrounded by vanilla and chocolate ice cream, often topped with items from the Blizzard menu, such as Oreo cookies or milk chocolate candies. You can find pre-made cakes in the refrigerator at the store. However, we highly recommend ordering a day in advance to ensure availability. The staff will not make a cake to order during busy service hours.

Dairy Queen is part of the Flash Foods and gas station complex, on Ben Fortson Parkway, just east of the causeway. Jekyll Sandpiper renters pass it when you first come onto the island. There is not a drive-through or walk-up window option, so be prepared to park and walk in for service. The hours are 7 AM – 10 PM, seven days a week.
