Four Golf Courses
The Jekyll Island Golf Club is your key to booking tee times for any of the four courses on the island. Choose one of three 18-hole courses or the historic 9-hole course. The richest families in the nation built the 9-hole Great Dunes course during the Club era. Walter Travis, a famous golf architect involved in 50 courses, designed and built the course in 1926. The beautiful Georgia coastal woodlands surround all the courses, with only the occasional glimpse of a distant house. As you walk or drive the courses, you may see egrets, wood storks, or a bald eagle around the ponds.
Several of the courses offer views and sounds of the ocean. The courses are often uncrowded, allowing golfers to proceed at their own pace, and the golf carts have GPS and coolers. Clyde Johnson designed Pine Lakes as a family-friendly course, with tee boxes containing multiple positions. Indian Mound and Oleander provide additional options for play.
Jekyll Island Golf Club is located mid-island on Captain Wylly Road. Call (912) 635 – 2368 to reserve your tee times. The 2018 cost for the 18-hole courses are $69 riding / $40 walking for adults and $29 riding / $18 walking for juniors aged 15 and under. The cost for the 9-hole course is $40 riding / $20 walking. A driving range and discounts for early afternoon and twilight tee times are available.
Instructors are available for private and group lessons provided by PGA-certified staff to golfers of all skill levels. Inquire at the club number for further details. The pro shop will also help your group set up its own customized tournament. For a bigger event you might try the Georgia-Florida Golf Classic, held each year at the end of October, just before the traditional Georgia-Florida football game in nearby Jacksonville. Summer camps are available for ages 6 – 12, as well as 12 and up.
