Holidays 2017: Thanksgiving and Christmas on Jekyll Island

Getting Together

Holidays are a time for family and friends to gather, putting work and school aside. Have you made plans for this Thanksgiving or Christmas season? A beach vacation could be a great venue for your get-together. Let’s have Destination Christmas or Destination Thanksgiving. Create lasting memories on Jekyll Island at our Sandpiper Cottage.

Cook your Thanksgiving or Christmas meal in our gorgeous kitchen, with its granite-topped counters.  The open concept means more people can help prepare the meal.  Our bar stools around the island let folks interact even when they aren’t helping to prepare a dish. Sandpiper’s kitchen comes stocked with pots, pans, mixer, baking dishes, and much more.  It is open to the dining room, with its large dining table.  Everyone can interact without being on top of each other.

We’ve got the spaces for you to gather! The open-air balcony has always been a favorite gathering spot. With our recent remodel, we expanded the screened-in porch. Football fans can watch their favorite teams in the vaulted ceiling family room on a 65-inch TV screen. If kids or other family members need an alternative program, just head to the downstairs family room, where you will find another large TV.

Jekyll Christmas Lights
Holiday Magic

In addition to enjoying family time, you can experience Jekyll’s Holly Jolly magic!

The Jekyll Island Tree Lighting Festival is November 25th starting at 4 pm. You will find live music, carriage rides, and children’s crafts in The Historic District, and they light the great tree later that evening.

Even better, tour the island to view the lights in many of the oak trees. The mansions of the Historic District will be decorated as they might have been during the Club Hotel Era.

The lights go on in November and last throughout December.  The Jekyll Museum will feature tours of the mansions decorated inside and out,  but for me the best sights are of the entire island glowing with lights in the night air.
