Restaurant Recommendations on Jekyll
We have a list of area restaurants and a growing set of reviews. But we also want to highlight our favorites. We currently have four go-to restaurants on the island. It is not that we don’t try other places, but we find ourselves eating most often at these establishments.
Low Country (Southern and Coastal)
Driftwood Bistro (Menu) – Best value on the island for this combination of Southern and Seafood cuisine. You might want to get there early since the wait can be long later in the evening. We’ve enjoyed their wine and beer selections, but skip the margarita.
Red Bug Pizza (Menu) – Good and reasonably-priced pizza. Wings and sandwiches, too. Beer and wine. Located next to the Miniature Golf, so the two activities make a good pairing. But they deliver, too, so we frequently order from them and eat in. Be aware, however, that they sometimes get overwhelmed with orders. During these times, they may not answer the phone or service might be slow.
Zachry’s Riverhouse (Menu) – Mostly seafood, but also burgers, salads, and wings. Wonderful crab cakes and a crab cake sandwich. Nice ambience, but a little hard to find. Near the Jekyll Marina. If you’ve been to their Brunswick location, be aware the the Riverhouse has a more limited menu.
Wee Pub Beach (Menu) – An Irish Pub in the Beach Village. A reasonably-priced blend of Irish, American, and Seafood. Music entertainment some evenings. They won first place at the 2016 Shrimp and Grits Festival, but their Shrimp and Grits is only available occasionally as a special. One of our favorites is the Chicken and Wild Mushroom Pie. We’ve also heard rave reviews about the Philly sandwich and the bread pudding from our family members. So we’ll plan to try them.
In addition to our views, we looked at Trip Aadvisor, Google, and Yelp. All of our choices receive four plus stars, with the exception of Red Bug, which get four stars on Google and Trip Advisor, but only 3.5 on Yelp. These sources also highly recommend the Love Shack for the barbeque and shrimp. And for elegant fare, there’s the Club’s Grand Dining Room, though we think they suffer on their service at times. A big negative for a higher-priced place.
