Jekyll Island hosts some popular annual events.
1. Destination Wedding on Jekyll Island – ongoing
Did you receive an invitation to a destination wedding on the island? Your bride and groom couldn’t have picked a better place. Why not book a home for a couple of extra days and make an even better trip of the event?
2. Beach Village Events – ongoing
The Beach Village holds a series of ongoing events. Last year’s events included Movies on the Green, Watermelon Wednesdays, and Sidewalk Sales. Just a few more reasons to visit the shops and restaurants on Main Street.
3. Island Treasures – January and February
A chance to hunt for treasures that are hidden across the island. Search for one of the beautiful glass balls hidden around the island. A wonderful reason to get out and see the sights while searching for a handmade souvenir.
4. Jekyll Island Arts Association Festival – March
Held on the grounds of Goodyear Cottage in the Historic District. Members of the Association submit their artwork for judging, with many categories including photograph, paintings, and pottery. In addition, you will find local artwork for sale. As well as demonstrations of weaving, painting and carving.
5. Easter Egg Stroll – April
Come enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt in the Historic District. Then try another activity such as face painting or a carriage ride under the oaks and next to the historic “Cottages.”
6. Fireworks on the 4th – July
Spectacular fireworks display right on the beach.
7. Shrimp and Grits Festival – September
The biggest event of year on Jekyll. Local restaurants set up tents with their version of this local dish for everyone to share. Live music plays on the bandstand, Southern Living presents cooking demonstrations, and local artists sell their wares. A wine, beer, and cocktails stations help create a festive mood.
8. GA/FL Golf Classic
Are you headed to Jacksonville for the University of Georgia vs. University of Florida Football game? Stay on Jekyll Island and drive down to the event. You can also play in this golf event the same weekend! Multiple golf tournaments for all ages are held throughout the year.
8. Holly Jolly Jekyll – Tree Lighting
See the island’s oaks strung with lights, and visit the Historic District, all spruced up with holiday decorations. The tree lighting is the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. But lights and decorations will be displayed through December, so visitors can see how the island might of looked during the Jekyll Club Era.
