Zachry’s – a Hidden Gem
A relaxed, casual restaurant serving food in the southern Georgia style. Zachry’s is a bit of a hidden gem located next to the marina on the inter-coastal waterway, close to where the causeway brings you onto Jekyll Island. If you don’t know the location of the marina, directions using google maps would be a good option.
Once you arrive, choose a table on the screened-in porch or outside at the bar-height counter, which has a good view of the Inter-coast Waterway. You can hear live music from these spots better than from the inside tables. If you are particularly interested in the music, you will want to call ahead or check their Facebook page. We’ve heard several performers, such as Joey Thigpen and Jaime Rowell, always in the evening hours, but I’ve seen them post afternoon sessions on some days. All groups we’ve heard played the guitar and sang. Not too loud, so you can still enjoy talking to your table mates.
A Seafood Focus
Our server was excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Our food took a bit of time to arrive, so order a beer on tap or a specialty cocktail and let yourself slow down. I recommend the Peel-and-Eat Shrimp and the Fried Oysters. Food for non-seafood eaters is a bit limited. Burgers and fries, sandwiches, or salads might be your best bets. Food here was tasty, fried items are crisp. But don’t expect anything to be very spicy – that’s not their style. One thing I would not recommend is the Key Lime Pie; it is more a lime refrigerator pie. And if you like a traditional philly, stay away from their Chicken Bacon Philly.
Zachery’s serves lunch and dinner. Open 11:30 AM – 9 PM. Seven days a week, except Friday and Saturday, when they close at 10 pm.
